As people went to mourn our beloved late brother David Phiri AKA Daev Zambia, other people went with wrong intentions, they wanted to see where and how Daev’s family house looks. The majority of Zambians believe that once you’re famous, you automatically become rich and they expect a high standard lifestyle but don’t mind how you’re going to acquire it.
A multi-talented Zambian youth who is a journalist by profession, an enterprenuer, comedian, TV presenter and renowned director of programmes – Kazungo Emmanuel Ndeya famously known as Ken Dumbo picks on people who went to mock the late Daev’s Family house and he wrote:
LIFE OF A CELEBRITY IN ZAMBIA, A LAUGHING STALK…
– Ken Dumbo
In our society today, when one makes a name and commands a following of a kind, there is a certain lifestyle that society expects them to live by or live with.
For example, those considered to be celebrities are not expected to live in the ghetto, they aren’t expected to get on a bus or public transport and when they meet people… They are probably expected to give out money.
While that is the case in other countries, unfortunately the story is different in Zambia. Here there is a alot expected of celebrities at the expense of NOTHING.
While a Celebrity is expected to Live in a Mansion, Drive a Posh Car, Give out money for charity , His Art is not well celebrated and appreciated.
He records music but society wants to listen or have the music for free.
He organizes a show, people call him not to buy tickets but to ask for free tickets or risk anything to enter and watch for free.
He puts a price tag to his art or talent, they that need his services want to hire him at their own price.
In the end, a Zambian celebrity makes a name which is not equivalent to his bank account. That’s why they get on a bus like you do, and live in the hood like you do but you talk Ill about them and their lifestyle, forgetting that you don’t give out any coin in exchange of the works they put out and if you do…if for less amounts.
Before you realize it, for failure to pay for Bills, they will post you on social media, For failure to pay a bus Fare, they will post you on social media, for failure to go to school, they will say you forgot about school when you got the fame, you fail to build they will say he didn’t have the plan to build when he had the fame yet they forget that FAME WITHOUT MONEY is like two minus ten…….IT CAN’T.
To the government, Public and Private Business houses, Companies and individuals running business and Zambians at large, May we invest in the ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY and celebrate our own.
ALWAYS REMEMBER, for Artists to be what you expect them to be and live a lifestyle you expect them to live…they need business that will give them money more than the LIKES, SHARES , COMMENTS.
BUY THEIR PIECES OF ART,
PAY FOR TICKETS AND ATTEND THEIR SHOWS IN NUMBERS TOO,
PAY THEM HANDSOMELY FOR THE SERVICES YOU WANT FROM THEM,
GIVE THEM GOOD BUSINESS DEALS AND CREDIT THEM WITH ALL THE AWARDS & ACCOLADES WHILE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE
Otherwise, love and support given to someone when they are dead is like the opposite of”something” IT’S NOTHING.
